Awarded an AOC in 1969, Munster Cheese is a soft cheese made from cows' milk, with a washed rind. Known for its strong smell and fruity taste, this characterful cheese can be eaten as it is or sprinkled with cumin, with a slice of country bread and a glass of Gewurztraminer. Munster is also good for savoury dishes such as gratins or Munster quiche.

A visit to the House of Cheese (Maison de Fromage), in the Munster valley at Gunsbach, should not be missed. This is an agricultural tourist attraction paying tribute to the famous cheese from Alsace, and the pastoral traditions of the valley.
