Moselle has been a source of great wine since Antiquity. The river, which tempers the climate, provides an excellent site for vineyards, especially on the slopes of the hillsides. They are mainly in the Sierck-les-Bains valley, near Metz, and towards Vic-sur-Seille.

Moselle wines are fresh and floral, very pleasant to drink. The reds are low in tannin, and the rosés, made from Pinot Noir grapes, are deliciously fruity. People also like the white wines, made from Pinot Gris and Auxerrois grapes, with a fine, light bouquet. This wine-growing area, the most northern in France, also enjoys AOC status.

In April, the wine-producing village of Vaux holds a festival in honour of Moselle wines, with food and wine workshops and tastings. The inaugural event took place in 2014.
