Originally from Corsica, the fiadone is one of the most famous pastries of that Mediterranean island. It has been eaten there for generations, and is a delight for young and old alike.
This Corsican cake is made from cheese whey, brocciu, to which eggs, sugar, lemon or orangezest, and the local brandyare added. You can replace this ingredient with vanilla, for those who do not like the taste of alcohol in desserts.
In 2013, a fiadone brotherhood was even founded in Corsica, in order to promote this delicious cake, and traditional Corsican cuisine in general.
