Every year since the port was opened in 1666, the St. Louis Festival has brought the town to life, rooted in the secular tradition on which its identity is based. The jousts take place along the royal canal for six to seven days. The competition is at the centre of the festival, from the press tournament on Wednesday to the heavyweight tournament on Monday, which draws thousands of spectators. The swim across Sète is also a popular event. Activities, shows, quayside bars, sports tournaments and fireworks also add to the exceptional atmosphere that reigns in Sète during this week.
