Each year in mid-August, the town of Dax holds its feria, a large gathering mixing bullfighting and popular celebration. This festival literally changes the face of this small spa town in Landes. For five days and five nights, hundreds of thousands of visitors, dressed in red and white, come together in the streets to sing and dance to the sound of bandas. The arenas are open daily for the occasion and host corridas and bloodless bullfights called course landaise for aficionados.
The Dax Festival is known for its good humour and friendliness but also for its joyful consumption of alcohol! Alcoholic drinks flow freely and the café terraces are always full. Throughout the festival, Gascon heritage is celebrated with folk music groups, horse shows and tastings of local products. Free sports events and parades punctuate the festival for all to enjoy. On the last day, a big show of bandas and fireworks round off these five unforgettable days.
