Small coastal town of the Dunes of Flanders, in the North, Zuydcoote takes place on the shores of the North Sea, at the gates of Dunkirk. It is located not far from the seaside resort of Bray-Dunes, near the Belgian border.
Founded in Roman times, the municipality of Zuydcoote has developed around its maritime activities, in particular cod fishing in Iceland in the 18th century, suffering over the centuries from numerous natural damages which have made it increasingly strong. Heavily affected during the Second World War due to the organization of Operation Dynamo in 1940, Zuydcoote experienced a major reconstruction campaign in the second half of the 20th century, all the same retaining its natural charm and dynamism.
