Things to see and do

Listed as an historic monument, the castle Hohlandsbourg was built in the late thirteenth century by Siegfried Gundolsheim. Improved in the sixteenth century by a successor, it was partly destroyed by French troops during the Thirty Years War in the seventeenth century. Its ruins are accessible from Easter to 11 November.

Listed as Historic Monuments, the ruins of the castle of Pflixbourg rise more than 450 meters above sea level, overlooking the entrance to the valley of Munster. Built in the twelfth century, the building is in the form of a hexagonal enclosure surrounded by a moat. It has a unique entry system in Alsace and is regularly the subject of renovation campaigns.

While strolling in the heart of the commune, you will also be able to discover the town hall of the end of the XVIth century, the Bierkeller, with its old cellars of brewers of the 19th century, or the factories of printing on fabrics and metallurgies, witnesses of the industrial Revolution. The city also has a gite of Roman step listed Historical Monument.

Wintzenheim also has a rich religious heritage through the Church of St. Lawrence, the former presbytery of the eighteenth century, the Priory of Clunisians Saint-Gilles listed in the supplementary inventory of Historical Monuments or the synagogue of 1870, she also inscribed.

The Herzog chapel, listed in the supplementary inventory of Historic Monuments, unveils beautiful sculptures in the heart of neo-Gothic architecture.

The Sainte-Thérèse-de-l'Enfant-Jésus chapel is listed as a historic monument. You will not miss either the Chapel of Woods on the heights of Rotenberg with its set of two chapels, crosses and oratories.
