Member of the Eurométropole Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai, the commune of Wasquehal takes place in Hauts-de-France region, in the department of Nord. It is located in Flanders, just six kilometers from the Belgian border, and borders Marcq-en-Baroeul, Tourcoing or Villeneuve-d'Ascq.
The development of Wasquehal really began in the 19th century, with the arrival of the industrial revolution and the railway. Originally known for its textile industry, the city developed a specialty in the chemical industry at the end of the 19th century. It is extremely rich, however, undergoing the throes of the economic crises of the 20th century, losing much of its industrial dominance.
Today, the city of the North is especially appreciated for its ideal geographical location to discover the rest of the region, as well as for its important cultural life.
