Vitry-le-François

Town classified 3 flowers, capital of Perthois, located in the center of a pleasant country with varied aspects with all around, the countryside with small shaded paths in summer, streams, rivers, lake suitable for fishing and nautical activities.

Vitry-le-François is the meeting point of various communication channels: river crossroads (3 canals: Marne au Rhin, Between Champagne and Burgundy, lateral to the Marne), crossroads (Paris-Strasbourg, Calais-Lyon-Méditérannée lines) (RN4 Paris-Strasbourg towards Saint-Dizier and the south of France and RN44 from Reims to Vitry-le-François).

A little history... Formerly, Vitry-en-Perthois, this ancient fortified town, was dismantled at the end of the 12th century. Following his total destruction by Charles V, Francis I founded Vitry-le-François in 1545, giving him his name and his arms, "Azure to a golden salamander, head circumvented and crowned likewise, lying in a burning pyre Gules, to the chief Azure sustained of gold and loaded with three fleurs-de-lys "with the motto" Nutrisco et exstinguo "or" I eat it and turn it off ".

The construction of the new Vitry was entrusted to the Italian architect Marini. During the Second World War, the city was razed to 90%. New city, completely rebuilt, it continues its development.
