Terrebasse castle is located in the town of Ville-sous-Anjou, in the department of Isère, 8 km northeast of Chanas.
Located to the north of the town, leaning against a hill, the site housed a first castle from the Middle Ages which belonged to the lords of Anjou, in the south-east of the territory of the locality.
Fief of a seigniory, it was acquired in 1751 by the Rigod family, who carried out vast alterations then, thanks to the Revolution, the estate was acquired in 1790 by Pierre Jacquier, who was ennobled in 1814 and took the name of Jacquier de Terrebasse. One of his sons would later be deputy for Isère and mayor of Ville-sous-Anjou. The latter in turn will carry out the work.
Nowadays, the main building dates from the 18th century and presents a neo-classical style. It has a "south" wing actually occupied by the old feudal castle, while the "north" wing, for its part, was never fitted out.
The park, for the most part enclosed by walls, nicely landscaped, saw its entrance moved in 1849 and in 1869, new outbuildings (stables, sheds) were established.
At the start of the 20th century, a gray coating, known as the Tyrolean, was applied to all the facades, giving them an unfortunately rather austere appearance.
As for the interiors, on the other hand, although they were modernized in the 19th century, French ceilings and 18th century woodwork have been preserved.
The vast property is still private and listed in the Inventory.
