Villars

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Vaucluse

Small village of Vaucluse, in the Luberon Regional Nature Park, Villars takes place near Roussillon and Provencal Colorado. It is located about sixty kilometers from Avignon and its festival, not far from Apt and Gignac.

Formed on the territory of Saint-Saturnin-les-Apt, the village of Villars hosted in the Gallo-Roman era many villas of Roman practitioners. But it was not until the beginning of the twelfth century that the town was really born, turning mainly to agriculture and livestock.

Full of charm and very dynamic, this town in the south of France still has an interesting historical heritage, as well as a large choice of leisure activities. Its typical architecture can be admired while staying in the surroundings.

Things to see and do

The Saint-Pierre chapel of Bagnols was built on a Gallo-Roman fanum dedicated to the rural cult of water. Not far, it is also possible to discover the chapel Saint-Roch built in the early eighteenth century to finally stop a plague epidemic.

While strolling in the village, you will be able to discover several houses in height, houses which had for originality to place the animals down and the men above. They date mostly from the 16th century.

There are also some examples of troglodyte habitat including the Cabrone sheepfold which is 800 meters above sea level.

Several marked hiking trails allow to appreciate the heritage and landscapes of the surroundings.

The village has a 9-hole golf course, Pitch 130, which takes place near the ocher cliffs of Roussillon.

Events and festivities

From May 1st to September 30th, the village offers a seasonal market on Sunday morning. Two flea markets are organized in the year, including a night. A Christmas market is also proposed in December.

The village festival takes place every year for two days around July 20th.

Mid-September, place at the Galinette Festival, with concerts, shows, games for children or exhibitions and food trucks.
