New commune of more than 8 000 inhabitants located in the Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire region, Lys-Haut-Layon was born on January 1, 2016 from the merger of Cerqueux-sous-Passavant, La Fosse-de-Tigné, Nueil- sur-Layon, Tancoigné, Tigné, Trémont, and Vihiers. It takes place about fifty kilometers from Angers and its famous castle.

Recent, the town of Lys-Haut-Layon knows no less an old occupation, with traces of human habitation dating from prehistory on some of its territories. The area was really developed in the nineteenth century, with the arrival of the railway, and today the town is mainly known for its tourism activity.

Lys-Haut-Layon has indeed a rich architectural and historical heritage, as well as a very pleasant natural setting to discover the time of a hike in the surroundings. Lovers of gastronomy will also be able to enjoy various products benefiting from AOP, AOC or IGP, such as Poitou-Charentes lamb, Maine beef, Vendée brioche, Charentes butter or local wines. Things to see and do

Tigné has an architectural heritage of great wealth. You can admire the chapel of St. Anne, the twelfth and seventeenth centuries, listed in the Historical Monuments, or the castle of Grand-Riou, whose ruins of the fifteenth century are also listed. The manor Saint-Jacques Saint-Jean, inscribed, is a building of the sixteenth century that is not lacking interest, as the castle of Tigné, vineyard of the fourteenth century now owned by the French actor, Gerard Depardieu. Do not miss to appreciate the way crosses, as well as the farms and houses of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, or the mansions and mills.

The heritage of Vihiers not lacking attraction either with the castle of Coudray-Montbault, building of the sixteenth century listed historical monument for its facades, its roofs, its moat, its ruins, and its former chapel Saint-Jacques. The latter, dating from the twelfth century, is appreciated for its interior decor. You can also discover the castle or hospice Maupassant of the eleventh century and built by Foulques Nerra, the churches of St. John the Baptist and St. Nicholas, the hall of the eighteenth century listed in the general inventory of cultural heritage, windmills, or the Benedictine priory Notre-Dame Saint-Jouin.

While strolling in Les Cerqueux-sous-Passavant, you will be able to discover the castle Brétignole of XVe, XVIIe and XIXe centuries, old farms, houses of the XVIIIe century, mills, or the church Saint-Martin-de Vertou built in the twelfth, eighteenth and nineteenth century.

La Fosse-de-Tigné is appreciated for its fifteenth century castle dismantled in the nineteenth, its farms and old houses, its castle Beugnon nineteenth century, the castle of the small town of the fifteenth century mills, or his priory Saint -Hilaria of the eleventh and nineteenth centuries. The old town also has a pedestrian path 8.5 km in the middle of vineyards and on falun paths. The latter is also accessible by bike.

Like its neighbors, Nueil-sur-Layon presents several farms and old houses, as well as mills. Several manors remodeled in the nineteenth century are also visible, as the chapel Sainte-Barbe-Sainte-Basme of the sixteenth century, the ruins of the castle Sainte-Catherine, or the castles La Grise, Notre-Dame, and Saint-Michel Saint- Sebastian. Do not miss either strolling in the forest of Brignon and admire the monument of Twelve Braves of the nineteenth century.

At Tancoigné, you will see several farms and mansions of the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, several windmills caviers, the priory Saint-Pierre of the sixteenth century, or the church of St. Pierre nineteenth. You can walk in the woods of Vaillé, or at a place called Gauts where was discovered the first man of Tancoigné.

Events and festivities

The market is held every Wednesday morning. The city also offers a Christmas market with entertainment in December. Several garage sales are organized during the summer season.

In April, place at the art fair.

Popular hiking race, the Grande Vihiersoise is organized in April.

Fireworks are offered at La Fosse-de-Tigné in early July.

A flora and fauna outing is organized every summer in La Fosse-de-Tigné.

The stride of the Three Mountains, pedestrian race, takes place at the beginning of July.

On July 14, several popular balls are offered.

In September, place at the trail Lys Haut Layon.

Mountain bike and horse riding, La Voidéenne is organized on November 11th.

Visits, leisure and activities nearby

Nearby, you can visit the Biopark Doue-la-Fontaine, and the rose garden, the Ferme d'Antan, performances are given in the arenas of Gifted and troglodyte sites. It was in July that takes place the festival of roses.
