Perched on its rocky spur, the village of Vieille-Brioude takes place in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, in the department of Haute-Loire. It is located not far from the town of Brioude, overlooking the valley of the Allier.

More than 1,000 years old, the town was born of a feudal clod that has now disappeared. It was formerly known for its important wine-growing activity as well as for its agriculture. Today, Vieille-Brioude is mainly a tourist village, unveiling a historical and cultural heritage of great interest.

The location of Vieille-Brioude gives it an ideal location to discover this part of Auvergne, as well as the most interesting sights of the region. In the heart of unspoiled nature, the village puts forward unique landscapes, perfect for learning outdoor activities and enjoying the local fauna and flora.

Things to see and do

Inscribed in the Historic Monuments, the Sainte-Anne church was built during the 12th century. In the Romanesque style, it presents an example of architecture typical of the Haute-Loire.

The 15th century bridge was also listed in the Historic Monuments and was rebuilt in the 19th century. It was once the largest arch built in the Middle Ages.

Whether you are a wine lover or not, you will enjoy discovering the Vine and Heritage Museum. This garden-museum takes place around the church of Sainte-Anne and traces the history and traditions of the commune of Vieille-Brioude. The site regularly hosts exhibitions or theatrical performances.

Near Védrines, a dolmen made of a natural rocky area has been classified as a Historic Monument. Several marked hiking trails allow you to appreciate this site and many others.

Located on the banks of the Allier, the Bageasse beach takes place in Vieille-Brioude and Brioude. Fitted out, it offers many outdoor activities.

In April, the town offers a spring market with several activities.

Folk encounters with traditional dance demonstrations are offered in March.

The nature raid of the gorges of the Allier passes through the village of Vieille-Brioude in early June.

As of July 14, the municipality offers a garage sale, as well as a popular ball.

At the end of July, the Sainte-Anne is celebrated in Vieille-Brioude especially through the harvest festival, as well as a fair.

The celebration of the vineyard celebrates the agricultural activities of the commune at the beginning of October.

In November, the festival of the pig is rich in animations and tastings.
