Vic-en-Bigorre, an ancient city...

Since ancient times, the site is occupied Vic-en-Bigorre; first by Bigerriones (Aquitaine people, which gives its name to the Bigorre), then by the Romans from 50 BC

The vicus (whose current name stems) was the place of life dependent Bigorra Castrum, fortification located in Saint-Lézer. The village developed on the current site of Seindrex, outside the town hall. The small "terrace" that form this square dates from this time.

Vic-en-Bigorre, a medieval town...

Until the tenth century, numerous counts of Bigorre stay Vic-en-Bigorre, which then is one of the most important cities in the region. From the tenth century, they prefer to stay in Tarbes, which became the capital of Bigorre. Vic is erected in town in 1151 and in the early thirteenth century, Pierre de Marsan strengthens on the same model as the towns of Tarbes, Rabastens-de-Bigorre or Maubourguet. This walled city is hinted today between the canal that encircles the heart of the city. Vic is crowded since this time approximately 2,000 inhabitants, while in 1500 only Tarbes.

Vic-en-Bigorre, a prosperous city...

From the seventeenth century, Vic-en-Bigorre thrives on crops and many buildings were built then. The mansions are multiplying in town, appears a civilian hospital and a convent. Many of these monuments are still visible today.

Despite epidemics and famine, the population of Vic increases and on the eve of the Revolution there were more than 3000 people...

Located at the crossroads of Gers and Bearn, between mountain and ocean, Vic-en-Bigorre kept his past remains important and active economy that makes this the most important city of the country Val d'Adour. In addition, since 2015, the city is classified "City Gourmande" first town of the Hautes-Pyrénées to obtain this label. Things to see and do

The Tourist Office of Vic-Montaner created in 2015 a tour circuit to discover the history of the monuments of the city. This free tour, available as an audio guide, you will result in vicquoises streets to discover monuments such as the church, the town hall, or the market hall to name a few.

Concerts, festivals, dining and entertainment of all kinds, there is always something to do in Vic-en-Bigorre.

At the end of June takes place the festival Zik'à Vic. Music just for you for 2 days. In the media room, successive concerts, open stages and music markets. Previous editions have hosted, among others, Paco Ibáñez, Mickaël Jones or Sinsemilia...

The festival Vic diners, held around July 14, was established in 2015. It is a popular festival that will make you discover local products cooked by chefs of national fame. While you sit around large tables set up for the occasion, it's music you enjoy these preparations through concerts that animate the market hall.
