The museum is an associative Thiérache controlled museum, labeled "Museum of France ". It is set in a large historic house ( facades vintages 1595 and 1715), owned by the city of Vervins. The museum was founded in 1872 with objects from the excavation of the ancient site of Vervins made by the founders of the Archaeological Society of Vervins.
