Commune des Yvelines, in Ile-de-France, Verneuil-sur-Seine takes place about fifteen kilometers from Saint-Germain-en-Laye, on the banks of the Seine. Located only a few kilometers from Paris, the city has retained its authentic and natural aspect despite its 15,000 inhabitants.
Inhabited since the Merovingian period, the city of Paris has long known a history related to that of the neighboring commune, Vernouillet. Owned by the family of Montmorency, then that of Narbonne, Verneuil-sur-Seine develops over the centuries around its castle and its church.
Long an agricultural village rich in arable land, the town has transformed its aspect in the 20th century, offering important residential areas in the heart of a preserved nature and very well served by public transport. Ancient, it also has an interesting architectural and cultural heritage that attracts visitors.
Classified as Historical Monuments, the Saint-Martin church was built during the 12th century. Blending harmoniously Gothic and Romanesque style, it was transformed into a temple of Reason following the events of the French Revolution. Inside, there are three statues classified as Historical Monuments: the charity of Saint Martin, a 17th century polychrome painted statue, the Virgin and Child, a 14th century painted stone statue, and finally the Virgin Of Pitie, stone group of the end of the sixteenth century. The stained-glass windows, restored in the 20th century, also deserve a few moments' notice.
Built in the 16th century, the castle of Romé de Vernouillet was completely transformed in the first half of the twentieth century, becoming the school Notre-Dame-des-Oiseaux. Even today, its park is part of the French heritage. Of the original building, one can always admire the vaulted communal, the dovecote, as well as the cellars.
As you walk through the city, you can admire several works of art such as the Fontaine Fleur, a sculpture by George Delahaie opposite the train station. Painting by Swiss Werner Büchler in the wedding hall Champclos, and La Ravaudeuse de flags, painting by Jean d'Esparbès, a painter from the surrounding area.
Large Norman style house built after the 1920s, the Champclos is now owned by the commune. Its pleasant park is open to the public, while the building houses associative premises, music halls, a wedding hall, as well as offices and meeting rooms.
Do not miss to take a walk through the park of the Villa des Groux in the middle of the XIXth century.
The Val de Seine leisure park is known for its swimming area, its grassy areas, as well as its various activities such as mini-golf, tennis, fishing, pedalo, or sailing.
The market takes place every Wednesday and Sunday morning. A Christmas market is also organized in December with illuminations and animations.
Every year in March, the city proposes the trail of night vernolien. On the program, a 15-kilometer course around the three ponds of the Recreational Island of the Val de Seine.
Les Arts en Balade, in May, offers to discover sculptures, paintings, and other artistic works in different places of the city.
The Festivities of Verneuil take place at the beginning of June with a market of flavors, a vide-grenier and animations.
In October, the city celebrates the festival of taste with several animations and other tastings.
At the end of October, the horror days show a costumed ball, workshops for children, cinema sessions and terrifying shows.
