Véranne is located in the Loire department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The town covers a number of hamlets, including Buisson, Camier and Drevet.
First mentioned in writings in 970, the village of Véranne includes several historical sites. The most important are the Château du Buisson, property of the Villars family and then of Baron de Labeau de Bérard, and the chapel of Saint-Sabin, built in the 17th century. Its inhabitants are called Vérannaires.
The town is located at the foot of Mont Pilat, which culminates at an altitude of 1,432 m. The town of the village is itself positioned at an altitude of 580 m. Véranne is described in one source as a "very small, already southern-looking town", located in a "traditional mountain area".
