Happy who like the inhabitants of Vendoire live in this beautiful territory of the Dordogne in the immediate vicinity of the South Charente. La Lizonne indeed marks the limit between the two departments of Dordogne and Charente, in particular at the level of Vendoire.
This charming village of around 140 inhabitants is home to a real treasure of nature, one of the rare wetlands still preserved in France, the peat bogs of Vendoire. Its wild aspect, while being equipped for discovery, its great entomological wealth make it an original place of great heritage interest. The bottom of the Lizonne valley has the particularity of being made up of alkaline peat. This was exploited until the 1950s for the production of fuels and this activity has sculpted many bodies of water in the Vendoire sector. The valley, classified Natura 2000, constitutes a formidable reservoir of biodiversity.
Beyond the pretty walks to do there, you can take part in the August 15th celebration with the gathering of vintage cars. After a course in Périgord Vert, old cars are invited to parade through the heart of the town. This is an opportunity to share a convivial meal on the village square.
