City of nearly 48 000 inhabitants, in the Rhone region in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Vaulx-en-Velin takes place in the heart of the city of Lyon, on the left bank of the Rhone. It is located on the border of Ain, near Caluire-and-Bake, Meyzieu and Villeurbanne.
Inhabited since prehistoric times, the territory of Vaulx-en-Velin experiencing significant growth in the Gallo-Roman, as evidenced by the remains found on site. The town itself is created in the twelfth century and then depends on the lordship of Montluel. Over the centuries it has suffered many attacks, but has managed to grow demographically and economically in contact with the neighboring city of Lyon.
