Vaujany is a commune in the Isère department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, bordering Savoie, about 55 km east of Grenoble. The village itself is located at an altitude of 1,250 m, but part of the vast communal territory (71 km²) culminates at more than 3 400 m.
For a long time limited to high-altitude farming (farming), Vaujany's economic activity changed profoundly during the development of the hydro-electric dam at Grand-Maison in the 1980s.
