Val-d'Aigoual is located in the Cévennes Gardoises, at the foot of Mount Aigoual, the highest point of the town and the Gard. At the confluence of Clarou and Herault, the village of Valleraugue is located near the doors of the Cévennes National Park. About twenty kilometers away, the ski resort of Prat Peyrot has made Valleraugue famous.
With its typical architecture of the Cévennes Gardoises, Valleraugue also has a historical and natural heritage that attracts many tourists each year. Quiet and pleasant, the small town is ideal for exploring this land full of history and traditions.

Spread over a wide area, Valleraugue presents an interesting and charming heritage.
From Romanesque foundation and enlarged in 1686, the church of Saint-Martin de Valleraugue presents a very pretty iron campanile which shelters a bell of the beginning of the XVIe century. Nearby, you can also see the Temple of the United Protestant Church (1853) with neoclassical architecture.
While walking in the village of Valleraugue, visitors can discover the many facades and other ironwork dating from the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries that reflect the wealth brought by sericulture.
Higher up in the valley of happiness, the GR 62 will take them to the priory Notre-Dame-de-Bonheur founded in the year one thousand.
Once on Aigoual, lovers of nature and beautiful spaces can make a nice walk in the arboretum of the Hort de Dieu installed by foresters Flahaut and Fabre on the Mediterranean side of the massif in the early nineteenth century or discover the 4 floors of vegetation by climbing the 4000 steps. This mythical hike starts from the steps of the churchyard of Saint-Martin in the village at 345 m altitude and provides access to the Météo France observatory of Mount Aigoual at 1567 meters, the highest point of the town.

Valleraugue organizes each year various events that show the dynamism of this locality of the Gard.
The Valleraugue market is held on Wednesday and Sunday mornings.
In July and August, several night markets are scheduled and in December a Christmas market.
In June, the festival of Transhumance Sheep takes place in Esperou.
In October, with the fair authentic Aigoual, city dwellers from Nîmes or Montpellier, come to discover and make provision of local products, sweet onions of the Cevennes, pélardon, apple reinette du Vigan, chestnut...
In May, at the Arts Festival in the street, in July and August at the observatory of Mount Aigoual place at the conferences on climate and in Valleraugue, the organizers of the festival "The paths of tolerance" propose a vast program around the Enlightenment, in August the village of L'Esperou hosts the book festival which brings together some forty local authors.
Sports events are very numerous with the race of 4,000 marches in June, trails, mountain bike on the Aigoual or skiing at the Prat-Peyrot resort in winter.
The village festivals alternate all summer with July 14 in Valleraugue, followed by the festivities of Espérou, Ardaillers and Taleyrac in July and Aigoual in August with Festv'Aigoual and Valleraugue also 15.
