Vallentigny is a pretty village of Aube, very pleasant to visit, with its pretty houses, its flowery sidewalks, its old wash house, its water tower, and its well maintained fields.
In the past, there was no question of changing every day but once a week, usually on Saturdays. The linen room was piled in a corner, and on the day of washing, the white was soaked. Then we did a prewash and then the laundry was boiled in the washing machine, well packed and monitored for a good hour. Then the washing machine placed on the wheelbarrow with the wooden box lined with straw where the woman would kneel, the soap, the colored linen, the brushes, it was necessary to take everything to the wash. The arms had to push and pull. Once arrived at the laundry, the other women made a small place for the arrival, and immediately the brushes resumed their work with the discussions. The news came from there, births, deaths, problems or joys. The work was not neglected so far, for the sheets, it would be two, the women always helped each other.
