Usson

In the Romanesque style, the church of Saint-Maurice was enlarged in the fourteenth and then in the sixteenth century. At that time, the queen's chapel, dedicated to Queen Margot, was added. Inside, you can discover a very beautiful altarpiece of the early 17th century, the latter representing the sovereign in the guise of Saint Radegonde, alongside King Henry IV. The whole can be visited during the weekend in May, June and September, and every afternoon in July and August.

Not far from the church, one can take a path leading to the basalt organs of the village of Usson. Another trail, that of the Salamander, allows to traverse all the vestiges dating from the time of the exile of Marguerite de Valois in the municipality.

Usson has preserved some vestiges of the triple enclosure of its ancient fortress. Today, the village still boasts beautiful mansions from the 15th and 16th centuries.

Do not miss to visit the hillock of Usson, at about 640 meters above sea level. At its summit you will find a statue of the Virgin whose mission is to protect passing airmen. You will also benefit from an incredible view on the massif of Sancy or on the chain of Puys.

The patronal festival of Usson is held every last weekend of May.
