Listed as a Historic Monument, the Saint-Loup de Troyes abbey was founded in the 9th century to house the relics of Lupus, bishop of Troyes known for having defended the city against Attila in the 5th century.
Transformed over the centuries, Saint-Loup Abbey was embellished in the 15th century with a Flamboyant Gothic style church. All the buildings were rebuilt in the 17th century before being destroyed during the French Revolution. Only a conventual building will be preserved and will be used at the time to store the books and manuscripts confiscated in the neighboring abbeys.
Today, the only vestige of Saint-Loup de Troyes abbey houses the Museum of Fine Arts and its beautiful collections. Visitors can discover paintings and furniture from the 14th to the 19th century, as well as decorative art objects and Roman antiquities.
