Situated in the Ile-de-France, in the Yvelines department, the city of Trappes is a green lung with 925 hectares of public green spaces, or 298 square meters per capita.

This is a city with strong roots in the ancient crossroads of two Roman roads from Paris to Dreux and Chartres. In the Middle Ages, is Trappes "villa muralis", a village surrounded by walls, five-door will allow access. The topography of the old part of town dates back centuries. In the 17th century, a portion of the territory of Trappes is attached to the royal domain (Versailles). The hydraulic system to power the fountains of Versailles requires the creation of ditches, culverts and ponds, among them the lake of St. Quentin on the leisure Trappes which preserves the memory. Meanwhile, around 1896, the scientist Leon Teisserenc Bort creates an observatory near the station: this is where he discovered the stratosphere. He bequeathed the property to the National Weather Service. In 1944, the city is destroyed to 71% by Allied bombing to rail facilities. From 1950 to 1975, Trappes changes face: agriculture goes, from 1953, the RN 10 bisects the city into two, urbanization is growing, the population growth continues to happen today 29 259 inhabitants.

Trappes is common with Elancourt, Guyancourt, La Verriere, in Magny-les-Hameau, Voisins-le-Bretonneux and Montigny-le-Bretonneux, the town of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, city Art and History.

Trappes is located 30 km west of Paris in the Yvelines department.

The city is served by the A12, the 10 national and several public transport operators.

The city is served by train, with two lines that connect TER in Rambouillet and Paris La Defense in the canopy. Allowing Trappes to be less than forty minutes from Paris and thirty minutes from La Défense.

A bus network connects the city with all the suburban districts.
