Toulouse observatory was founded in 1733 by the Academy of Sciences of the city and it was installed in 1841 on the site of Jolimont, east of the city, in the heart of a park become the garden of 'Observatory.
It is here that was erected a building designed by the architect Urbain Vitry: the building has a neo-Gothic appearance and is accessed via a monumental staircase in two flights leading to a portico. It is composed of Doric columns and pilasters. The front post, for its part, is flanked by two round towers.
From 1878 to 1908, expansion work made it possible to accommodate new instruments (telescopes). In the park, three domes, a tower, and newer buildings complement the site.
The main building is protected on scientific monuments. If the scientific teams (researchers, astrophysicists...) won in 1981 the campus of the University of Rangueil Toulouse and more recently, the Pic du Midi, the site of Jolimont is run by the Popular Astronomy Society offers entertainment and tours.
A public lecture is offered the last Friday of the month and observation sessions available to non-members other Fridays from 21h.
