Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Jacques is a former hospital of Toulouse which was founded in the twelfth century on the left bank of the Garonne. Expanded over the centuries, especially in the seventeenth and eighteenth century, there was a time the largest hospital in the city.
Now historical monument, it now houses administrative offices, research centers and two museums.
Built in brick, its current appearance corresponds expansions made in the seventeenth century (wing "is" and transverse wing) and eighteenth (wing "west"). Besides the architecture, the decorations are also remarkable, especially exterior and interior (paintings, stained glass).
Under Chemins de Saint Jacques since the site once housed pilgrims, Hotel Dieu listed since 2000 on the UNESCO list of world heritage.
The public can discover in part the interior of the building and admire its gardens by visiting museums it houses: one dedicated to medical instruments (including the fund has over 3000 hospital objects and instruments representing several surgical disciplines, dating from 1850 to the present) and one dedicated to the history of medicine at Toulouse (paintings, sculptures, old medical instruments, documents evoking the history of hospitals...).
Open to the public on Thursdays and Fridays from 13h to 17h and the first Sunday of the month from 10h to 18h, closed on holidays. Free access. Information +33 6 61 77 82 72.
