The former Discalced Carmelite Convent is located along the aisles Jules Guesde to Toulouse. It was built in the early seventeenth century to accommodate religious order-dependent reformed Carmelites, who were supposed to move barefoot sandals, hence their name.
After the Revolution, the convent and monastery buildings house the medical school and then, in 1861, the Natural History Museum of the city.
As for the old chapel of the convent, she became in 1806 the parish church St. Exupère (in reference to a bishop of the fourth century Toulouse).
Adjoined by three galleries preserved of the old cloister, the building Baroque facade that presents a statue of St. Joseph and Jesus is for decoration and interior decoration, making it a small museum dedicated to sacred art and liturgical furnishings.
At the chorus, painted wooden statues of the sixteenth century and the vault paintings made in 1838 by side with paintings of the eighteenth.
The nave, for its part, is marked by flamboyant plasterwork and many paintings, one of which is the "Transverberation of St. Teresa of Avila" (which reformed the Carmelite order). It is signed by the Italian Antonio Verrio painted, famous for its Baroque style, who stayed in Toulouse.
Finally, in the chapels, other paintings are also on display.
The church is also known for its majestic organ and carillon to 14 bells.
