The Museum of the History of Toulon and its region, formerly called "Museum of the old Toulon" was created by the Society of Friends of the old Toulon in 1949. Long housed in the old bishopric, it is now located on rue Saint-Andrieu, in the center of the port city. This new framework makes it possible to highlight a rich collection of works of art and documents relating to the history of the city and the region.
On the ground floor are presented relief plans, sketchbooks, documents, busts, paintings, watercolors... On the first floor, a library is installed and accessible, bringing together thousands of works (some of which are very old), resulting in particular from funds bequeathed by scholars and scientists of the city. It is open to the general public as well as to researchers and academics.
Among the prestigious artists whose works are presented at the museum, the sculptors Pradier and Pierre Puget, the painters Olive Tamari and Félix Mayol.
This dive into the history of the port city dotted with masterpieces and bibliophile treasures is completed by the presentation, each year, of temporary thematic exhibitions.
Open every day except Sunday. Self-guided or commented visit for groups, by appointment. Free admission. Inquire on +33 4 94 62 11 07.
