The castle of Fraysse (sometimes also called Saint-Exupéry) is located in the town of Terrasson-Lavilledieu, in the Dordogne, 20 km west of Brive-la-Gaillarde.
The building is located to the east of the town of Terrasson, on the hillside. The castle in its current form was built at the beginning of the 18th century on the foundations of a medieval fortified house dating from the 13th and 14th centuries. The facade of the first castle was reused as a foundation element and the old ground floor now serves as cellars. Belonging for centuries to the Saint-Exupéry family, the feudal site was burned down during the Wars of Religion and then the troubles of the Fronde. Then, the new construction wanted to be more residential than "military". Open to the outside, consisting of a main building flanked by two towers, it has a terrace framed by the remains of the medieval fortress. It serves both as embankment and as a link with the park laid out in the 19th century and which includes a pond. An oratory dedicated to the Virgin was added in 1852.
The property is still private but the exteriors are regularly open to the public.
The whole is registered in the Inventory and can mark out a walk in this town of character, true gate of Périgord when one comes from Corrèze. Information on +33 5 53 50 37 56.
