A rural commune in the Pyrénées-Orientales, Taurinya takes place about fifty kilometers from Perpignan, in the Conflent region. It is located on the banks of the Llitéra, in the Regional Natural Park of the Catalan Pyrenees.
Populated since prehistory, the village of Taurinya has experienced numerous occupations, first with the Celts, then the Romans who laid the foundations of this city in the south-west of France. Due to its geographical location, it has experienced numerous external attacks over the centuries; the village was then equipped with a protective fortified enclosure in the 13th century.
Today still focused on agriculture, the city of Taurinya also attracts canyoning enthusiasts, allowing the practice of aquatic hiking or canyon descent with ropes.
