Located in the department of Manche, in the Normandy region, the commune of La Haye takes place near the harbor of Surville, not far from the town of Lessay. It was created on 1 January 2016 by the merger of nine Norman cities, Baudreville, Bolleville, Glatigny, La Haye-du-Puits, Mobecq, Montgardon, Saint-Rémy-des-Landes and Saint-Symphorien-le-Valois.
Important in size and inhabitants, the new commune of La Haye reveals an impressive historical heritage, with a large number of religious buildings and other natural sites of great beauty. The Norman city also attracts by its landscapes, as well as its proximity with the coast of the Channel Sea.
City of countryside, La Haye is ideal to spend holidays in the calm and the open air, while enjoying all the most beautiful sights of the department of Manche.
A new town born of the reunification of several towns and villages in the English Channel, La Haye has an important architectural and historical heritage.
Classified as historical monuments, the remains of the donjon and the medieval castle of the ancient city of La Haye-du-Puits are surely the most interesting tourist site of La Haye. Former 11th century fortress erected on a clod, it reveals a donjon more than six meters in height. In front of the street, one can appreciate a second castle, in reality a manor built in the sixteenth century by Arthur de Magneville, and modified in the XVIIth century.
In Baudreville, one can also appreciate the remains of an old castle with some walls, a ditched platform, as well as the remains of circular corner towers. You can also discover the vestiges of a crenellated quadrangular enclosure, as well as a walkway through a wooden gallery. A door dating from the seventeenth century is also visible.
Churches are not lacking in La Haye and several of them are of great architectural interest. The church of Saint-Jean-l'Evangéliste of the XIXe century shelters notably the monument funeral of Arthur of Magneville classified to Historic Monuments. You will also appreciate the Sainte-Marguerite, Saint-Pierre de Bolleville, Saint-Pierre de Glatigny churches from the 17th century, Saint-Rémy from the 15th century, and Notre-Dame de Surville from the same period. The Saint-Aubin church in Mobecq hosts a painting by Alphonse Osbert, The Martyrdom of Christ. The latter was exhibited at the Salon of 1889.
Walking through the various communes of La Haye, you can also discover the castle of Saint-Rémy, the manor of Surville dating from the sixteenth century, or the castle located on the same village.
Integrated with the site of Community importance of the western coast of Cotentin within the framework of Natura 2000, the dune massif of Allonne and the harbor of Surville are the occasion of beautiful walks in edge of sea.
Several beaches are accessible in the different villages of La Haye for swimming, fishing or sailing or windsurfing.
La Haye-du-Puits offers a market on Wednesday morning.
In July, a flea market is proposed.
