The Strasbourg Conscription Museum is located in the city center. The establishment is housed in the Turenne barracks.
Created in 1978, it traces the history of conscription in France and Alsace, which was initiated in 1798 by the Jourdan law (first by drawing lots, then, in the form of military service concerning all young men of the same age group). The traditions linked to conscription such as the fires of Saint-Jean, parades with flags and cockades are discussed. The collections also make it possible to observe old objects such as measuring boards or medical equipment used during prior visits. Many documents are also presented.
In this same barracks are now housed the center where Defense and Citizenship Days (JAPD) are now held, and a military intelligence center.
