Installed in the department of Herault, the common Siran takes place at the heart of the Minervois. The village is located about fifteen kilometers from the ancient city of Minerve, in the district of Béziers.

Former castellum, circular village, Siran was once the land of welcome of a Roman castrum. royal land in the Middle Ages, the village is now mainly a wine ground whose wines are renowned for their high quality.

Things to see and do

The village of Siran, popular tourist site in the Hérault has a significant number of other sights and monuments to discover during a stay.

Located on the slopes, the Chapel of Our Lady of Centeilles dates from the thirteenth century and was modified in the fifteenth century. Inside, one can find some frescoes of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries including representing the Tree of Jesse, the Annunciation, the Resurrection or St. John and the Virgin on the tomb of Christ. In the northern chapel, a Roman mosaic of the fourth century comes straight from the villa Sirana.

Rebuilt in the sixteenth century, the Saint-Baudille church is known for harboring gilded wooden statues of St. Roch and the Virgin and a painting of St. Michael. The baptistery down to a pool.

In the streets of the village of Siran, visitors can admire the beautiful old mansions, remnants of a glorious era for the site.

But the curiosity of Siran remains the famous "road that goes up and down." The latter takes the place called Lauriole and would be the result of an optical illusion giving the impression of seeing a hill that descends.

Events and festivities

St. Vincent is celebrated in January with winemakers party. For the occasion, a procession Siran offers a raw drink or a concert and local wine sales.

The great fair of Siran takes place the Sunday before or after March 26. Stands, entertainment and great food tripe are scheduled.

The votive festival takes place the first weekend in July with a Mass in Occitan, a traditional meal or a great wine bar to discover the wines of the region Siran.
