Sommerau

• The bench altar:

• This bench is located halfway between Allenwiller Romanswiller and bears the date of 1855. It is a bench Eugenie (Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III).
• At the time, served bench altar, as the name suggests, to facilitate travel on foot. Housewives heavily loaded, returning from market, it could catch their breath.

• Catholic Church :

• The construction of Gothic Revival Catholic church began September 29, 1905. The Vosges sandstone used from a local quarry. The church was inaugurated September 29, 1906.
• Before that, Catholics and Protestants used the same church (the present Protestant church) and this for 219 years. The decree abolishing this simultaneum was signed December 29, 1906.
• The current rooster surmounting the steeple dates back to 1913. It replaces the original one which was too heavy and refused to turn!
• The organ is new: it dates from 2001. Rebuilt completely by Gaston Kern Hattmatt, this organ replaces M. and J. Rinckenbach 1906 which had suffered water ingress.

• The Protestant church:

• A study of the pastor and historian E. Herr, the Romanesque tower with its three floors was built in several stages. Foundations and the base date from the tenth and eleventh century.
• The tower itself dates back to the early twelfth century. Ravens (protruding rocks) 3rd floor once supported a wide 1.50m wooden gallery that was outside the bell tower. The tower thus represented, at the time, an ideal observatory and was certainly part of a larger defense system.
• The current ship date of 1739. Traces show the existence of older ships.
• In the chorus, whose roof is original, is a Eucharistic wall cupboard dated 1473. In the nave during the restoration in 1908, icons were painted on the ceiling and friezes on the wall. The organ is Theodore Stiehr and dated 1876.

• The fountains :

• From the beginning of the twentieth century, 10 fountains spread in the village run day and night.
• The water in these fountains is from an independent source of the drinking water network. It is not analyzed and thus it is given as not drinking.

• The laundry:

• Located on Rue de la Bergerie, the brook "The Sommerau" This covered wash is powered by the overflow of the waters of the old pumping station Allenwiller.
• It has 10 washing stations.
• Restored in May 2002, the wash has since 2003 a night illumination.

• Sports: On the edge of the forest, street Birkenwald, it is possible to practice various activities: football, handball, basketball, tennis, fitness trail.
