Simard is a village in Saône-et-Loire in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region, 30 km south-east of Chalon-sur-Saone and 10 km north of Louhans.
In the heart of the natural region of Bresse, the communal territory was occupied from the early Middle Ages. A prosperous seigniory then established itself, exploiting agricultural lands and small streams.
Marked by a tragedy during the retreat of the Germans in August 1944 who massacred a dozen villagers in retaliation for the attacks of the maquis, the recent history of the town is mainly related to its agricultural products, including the famous poultry of Bresse.
In a green environment, Simard which counts more than 1 200 inhabitants and a large associative fabric proposing numerous animations, turns out a pleasant stage for which visits the region.
