Fortified work of the Maginot line, the fort of Simserhof takes place on the commune of Siersthal, in the Moselle department. This immense artillery work was built between 1929 and 1936 and was at the time the centerpiece of the fortified sector between Saarland and the Northern Vosges.
Destroyed during the fighting of November 1944, the Simserhorf fort is one of the most visited tourist sites on the Maginot Line. Composed on the surface of eight battle blocks and two entry blocks, it unveils underground barracks, a kitchen, latrines, or a first aid station.
Various thematic and guided tours are offered throughout the year to discover the lives of soldiers in the fort and the hard fighting during the Second World War.
