Seignosse

The seaside resort of Seignosse-Océan is surely one of the main tourist attractions of this Landes commune. Classified, it takes place approximately five kilometers from Seignosse-Bourg, on the banks of the Atlantic Ocean. Developed in the 1970s, it offers four beaches which extend over approximately six kilometers, from South to North the Estagnots beach, the Bourdaines beach, the Penon beach, the former name of the resort and the Barracks beach. The Penon district is also home to the largest water park in all of Landes, Atlantic Park. There we discover 3000 m² of heated pools with multi-track slides, whirlpool baths, a spa, kamikaze slides, a counter-current river, or even beach volleyball courts and inflatable structures for children.

Another major asset of the city, its maritime pine forest, which covers a large part of Seignosse. It extends between Seignosse-Océan and Seignosse-Bourg, offering six hiking trails to discover the different species that populate the Landes forest. When the sunny days arrive, the smell of pine trees and the song of cicadas delight the senses.

In the village, you will appreciate the architecture of the Saint-André church built during the 13th century. Partly destroyed during the Terror, the building reveals a beautiful Gothic-style Angoulême stone bell tower. At the entrance to the village you will find a pretty wash house, a source of shade and coolness on hot days, it is pleasantly decorated with flowers. Very close by, the Etang Noir Nature Reserve is a classified site. The Reserve is home to many species specific to wet and marshy environments, dragonflies, pond turtles, otters and a wide variety of birds. A wooden pontoon takes you as close as possible to the black pond, you will cross a shaded area thanks to dense green vegetation.

In the seaside resort, it is the Sainte-Thérèse du Penon church which is worth visiting. In summer, this district is the scene of numerous activities for the whole family, concerts, magic shows, demonstrations of Landes folklore.

Sports commune, Seignosse allows in particular the practice of hiking, mountain biking, surfing or even kitesurfing. A very beautiful 18-hole golf course is also present on the territory, designed by the architects Robert Van Haggue and Pierre Thévenin, it is atypical because it is immersed in the forest of pines and cork oaks.

• A seasonal market is held from July 1 to August 31 at Seignosse-Océan, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sunday mornings. The 2nd half of June and the 1st half of September, Thursday and Sunday mornings. From Easter to the end of September, it takes place on Sunday mornings depending on the weather.
• In July-August, the night market takes place at Seignosse-Océan on Saturday evenings.
• All year round, the weekly market is held on Wednesday morning in the village of Seignosse.
• During the month of August, the Seignosse festivals take place in the town, including a funfair and attractions. The month of August also welcomes the Casetas, organized by Seignois associations: Landes meals, music and a good atmosphere guaranteed.
• At the beginning of August, the Little Festival, an electronic music and street art festival, will enhance your evenings.
• In October, the Landes beaches host the Quiksilver pro, a surfing competition between Seignosse and Hossegor.
