Located in the Isle valley, the town of Savignac-les-Églises lies between two limestone plateaux of the Causse du Périgord Blanc.
Its Celtic origin is well established, it followed a Roman occupation in the 1st century AD.
The village depended on the abbey of Tourtoirac in the eleventh century. His name was Sant Christophorus de Savignaco. Many monasteries were present in the village. There was the parish church Saint-Christophe, the current church Saint-Martin, the chapel Saint-Laurent today destroyed.
The economy was based on the cultivation of the vineyard. The town had more than 30% of its cultivated areas intended to produce wine (Sorges wine).
The tram from Périgueux to Lanouaille crossed the village. It was built before 1890, it was replaced in the late 1950s by coaches.
