San-Martino-di-Lota

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Upper Corsica

A charming little town in Corsica, on the Island of Beauty, San-Martino-di-Lota takes place about ten kilometers from Bastia, on the eastern side of Cap Corse. It is located near Furiani Pietranera and Miomo.

Embracing harmony with sea and mountain, the town of San-Martino-di-Lota is populated since ancient times. The decline of Rome brought later in the territory tribes Vandals, Byzantines, and finally the Lombards or the French and the Genoese. Long village of agriculture and animal husbandry, thanks to the cultivation of the vine or the olive tree, it continues to benefit from the AOC Corsican wine.

Today, tourism has been added to this economy, passing visitors as enjoying the natural charm of the city as its traditional architecture.

Things to see and do

Built in the early seventeenth century, the church Saint-Martin takes the hamlet Acqualto. Single from an architectural point of view, however, it has in its interior four works classified historic monument as an object like a tabernacle of the eighteenth century and a Madonna and Child seventeenth.

San-Martino-di-Lota has a rich religious heritage including the Sainte-Devote nineteenth century and the Santa Croce Brotherhood chapel. Built in the fourteenth century, it has a beautiful painting of the seventeenth century listed historical monument, The Virgin and Child with St. John the Baptist and a bishop saint.

Be sure not to walk in the castle park Cagninacci included in the general inventory of cultural heritage or admire the garden of the convent St. Hyacinthe.

But it is mainly for its natural heritage as the common San-Martino-di-Lota appreciated by visitors. Several marked hiking trails allow us to appreciate the peaks of Cap Corse, and the beaches of Pietranera Grigione and provide a haven of peace to enjoy the sunshine and views of the Mediterranean.
