Saint-Thibéry

• Mount Ramus: The village is built near an ancient volcano, Mount Ramus. Initially composed of three craters, the site has only one. An ancient lava flow led to the formation of basaltic organs visible in the heart of the village.
• Basaltic organs: The old oppidum of Saint-Thibéry is supported by magnificent basaltic organs, the result of the cooling of a lava flow during an eruption of the volcanoes of the Ramus Mountains about 650,000 years ago. From the top of this geological curiosity located in the heart of the village, the view embraces a vast 360 ° landscape: the mountains of Espinouse with the majestic Caroux, the peak of Vissou, the foothills of the Larzac, Mount St Baudille... Ramus and all the surrounding villages.
• The abbey church: The Romanesque abbey church, rebuilt in the 15th century in the Gothic style, is listed as a Historic Monument in 1923. It is rich in polychrome marble and 18th century woodwork and stalls.
• The tower and its barou: On the Place Saint-Sauveur (square of the church), stands the Renaissance tower, bell tower erected in 1509 by the Abbot Jean IV du Puy. It sheltered up to eight bells before the revolution, there is only one left to sound the tocsin or to warn the population of an unforeseen event. It has been classified as a Historical Monument since 1923. On the ground floor, a vaulted room was used to house the insane who came to implore the patron saint of the village, Saint-Tiberi, famous for curing mental illnesses.
• The bridge of the island: Suspension bridge, commonly known as a footbridge by the natives, was built at the beginning of the 20th century by the owners of the domain of the Island to allow pedestrians not to wait for the passage of the ferry to cross the " Hérault. Not being secure, nowadays it is no longer used.
• Pont-vieux: This medieval bridge built on the Thongue in 1575 was repaired in 1742 after being damaged by a flood. It was the only access to the village on the way from Pézenas to Saint-Thibéry. He saw the departure of the republicans of the commune hostile to the coup d'état of Prince Louis Napoleon in December 1851. A column commemorates this event.
• The mill at Bled: It was the property of the monks until the Revolution. Four wheels were used to grind wheat grown extensively in the region during the Middle Ages. In 1988 it was bought and restored by an individual who changed its use by adding a small hydro power plant.
• The bridge called Roman: Near the mill in Bled we can admire the remains of a bridge called Roman whose origin is not proven. It consisted of nine arches, only three visible. Some historians situate it on the Via Domitia. Hannibal would have borrowed it with his elephants.

The life of Saint-Thibéry is punctuated by festivities that take place throughout the year.

• End of March: the carnival of Saint-Thibéry. A true traditional institution, the Saint-Thibéry carnival is organized by the association "les Amis du Carnaval". The mayor gives the foal the keys to the village. Folk dances of children, of the ladder and of the foal, parade of floats punctuated by the judgment of Boniface who ends up at the stake, held responsible for all the ills of the village. The party then continues with a meal and a masked ball until the early hours of the morning. The next day the most diehards will seek carnival among the inhabitants as tradition dictates. Not having found it, they return the keys of the city to the Mayor until the following year!
• Mid-April: flower shows. For a day, the heart of the village turns into a large flower market, and also brings together a few craftsmen. Nurserymen and horticulturalists share their know-how and offer a wide variety of shrubs, plants, flowers, vegetable and aromatic plants. The artisans showcase their artisanal products. Many activities are also offered. All the conditions are met to spend a pleasant day with family or friends.
• Last Saturday in June: the DGST dance gala. Every last Saturday in June, the DGST association presents its annual dance gala at the green theater of Saint-Thibéry. From Sevillanas to hip-hop, passing by the hits of the moment, the dancers offer varied choreographies, sublimated by spectacular costumes.
• June, July and August: the four festive markets of local producers (one Wednesday per month, two in August). Place Francis Laurent, where local producers have their production tasted: oysters and shellfish, cold cuts, grilled meats, raw vegetables, cheeses, breads, olives and tapenades, pancakes with homemade jams, homemade ice cream, beer, wines. To be enjoyed on site (tables and chairs at your disposal as well as musical entertainment) or to take away. Guaranteed atmosphere!
• June, July and August: The Contemporary Artists of Occitanie exhibit their works during the summer season, in their gallery, the Emile Massal space, place de la Liberté. Professional artists welcome you to these exhibitions. Opening hours from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
• July: Republican holiday. Every July 13 Saint-Thibéry is celebrating. At the end of the afternoon on the town hall square, activities are organized for children. Then a dinner aperitif is offered to all, before heading, torches in hand, towards the small streets of the village to discover the conflagrations. A fireworks display ends the stroll and invites the population to return to the town hall square for a ball with friendly and festive musical entertainment.
• Penultimate weekend of July: the féria. The Saint-Thibéry fair is a celebration traditionally organized by the association "Friends of Spain", with the support of the municipality and about fifty volunteers. During three encierros days, arena games, parade of penas, tapas, orchestras follow one another for the pleasure of all. Restoration and refreshments on site.
• First weekend of August: the motoclub night supercross. Usually the first weekend of August, the Saint-Thibéry motorcycle club organizes a big night supercross. The best pilots compete in daring feats and put on a great show for the enjoyment of the spectators.
• Mid-August: the jazz festival. The Saint-Thibéry jazz festival is organized by the AGIR association with the support of the municipality. It takes place every year in mid-August on the town hall square in the heart of the village. For three days, the village comes alive with outdoor music and "beef" evenings at the bowling alley, to please the ears and eyes. Free concerts, on-site catering.
• Beginning of September: the associations forum. The first or second Saturday in September the associations meet in the town hall square to present their activities. The municipality takes this opportunity to welcome the new Saint-Thibéryens. If you have just arrived at Saint-Thibéry, come and make yourself known to the town hall.
• Around November 10: the local festival. For centuries this feast has traditionally been organized around November 10, the date of the patronal feast of the patron saint of Saint Thibéry. On this occasion the village hosts a fun fair for the greatest pleasure of young and old. On the program: rides, games, various and varied attractions, not to mention the unmissable "fuss"! Associations are also mobilizing to offer activities to Saint-Thibéryens.
