The church is located at the top of the village. Its silhouette is noticeable from afar.
A Roman temple dedicated to Saturn or Jupiter could have been built on or near the site of the church. But the building does not appear in the texts before the 11th century, when the Chartreuse de Portes was founded. At first in Roman style (the choir dates from the 12th century), the Gothic style was incorporated: addition of numerous disparate side chapels (14th-16th centuries), construction of an apse with a flat apse (15th century) and vaulting of the nave (16th century).
During the Revolution, the municipality managed to remove the bell tower to avoid its demolition. The spire of the bell tower dates from 1860, the new facade with porch from 1868. At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, many consolidation works, still clearly visible, were necessary.
The bell tower and the crossing of the transept have been listed as historical monuments since 1938.
A restoration in 1963/64 restored this church, at least in part, to its 16th century appearance century.
