Saint-Privat is a town in Corrèze, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, 18 km north-east of Argentat-sur-Dordogne.
Its territory of nearly 33 km² extends from 491 to 623 m above sea level and belongs to the natural region of Xaintrie. Covering the east of Corrèze, north-west of Cantal and north of Lot, this granite plateau is cut by the gorges of Maronne, Cère and Dordogne.
Saint-Privat is thus crossed to the north by the Glane de Servières, a tributary of the Dordogne, and to the south-east by the Glane d'Ancèze, a tributary of the Maronne.
The locality offers a total of a green rural landscape made up of 50% forests and 40% meadows dedicated mainly to the breeding of Salers cows.
The village, which has a little over 1100 inhabitants and its hamlets, are ideal for satisfying hiking enthusiasts in a preserved and peaceful environment...
A discovery of the local heritage can begin with the parish church dedicated naturally to Saint Privat. Since the 1990s, the building, which has been redesigned several times, has stained-glass windows in a contemporary style but soberly made by the master glassmaker Jean Maurel. In particular, there are representations of Our Lady of Lourdes, Saint Joseph and Saint Thérèse.
In the north of the territory, it is the pretty chapel of Artiges which has been restored and to the west, it is the noble silhouette of the castle of Cautine and its park that we can distinguish. Built in the 17th century, the building which includes lodgings was for a time the subject of a now abandoned eco-village project. The castle has regained its calm...
To the west of the village, again, the Chanaux lake, near which a campsite is located, delights fishermen (who can also enjoy the rivers: inquire about the regulations at +33 5 55 26 11 55). It is also possible to swim in season (information on +33 5 55 28 28 77).
The site is also the starting point for many hiking trails (hiking or mountain biking) which are dotted with wooded areas and bucolic pastures. Note the picturesque crosses that line the paths…
Note that larger circuits allow you to reach and then follow the Dordogne valley or take a "tour" of Xaintrie… Maps and information on +33 5 55 28 28 77 or +33 5 65 33 22 00
We should also mention the site of the Moulin de Malesse, in the south of the municipality, which houses accommodation and an equestrian center: in a perfectly exotic environment, something to recharge your batteries and consider beautiful horse rides! Information on +33 6 83 41 48 17.

"Quintet Univers Brassens "
- On 24 may 2024
- Salle Tatiany
- For the first time since the creation of Festiv'Arts en Xaintrie, we'll be presenting a French chanson show with Jacques Barnabé's quintet group Univers Brassens in the brand-new Salle de Tatiany in Saint-Privat - This group made its debut in 2014, blending its universe with that of the great names of French chanson, while retaining a style all its own - Its ambition is to pay tribute, with respect and passion, to the masters of this cultural heritage, crossing them with more confidential or unjustly unknown authors - What they all have in common, however, is that they belong to the great community of Georges Brassens friends, and resonate with the spirit of the Group - The Groupe Univers Brassens aims to make them better known, by telling their stories through their songs and their history
