Saint-Privat

Classified as a Historic Monument, with the exception of its nave which is inscribed, Notre-Dame-des-Salces church is located on the hamlet of the same name. It reveals in particular Romanesque parts of the end of the 11th century, as well as a beautiful bedside dating from the fourteenth century. The bell tower covered with slates reveals a beautiful portal to the south, just like a decoration of Lombard bands. In the nave, also in Romanesque style, you can admire a barrel vault.

Throughout the territory of Saint-Privat, no less than nineteen dolmens can be discovered. One of them, that of the Belvedere, was classified to the Historic Monuments in the middle of the years 1910.

Do not miss the Saint-Michel de Grandmont priory, also classified as a Historic Monument. It formerly belonged to the Order of Grandmont, a Catholic monastic order coming straight from Limousin and founded at the end of the eleventh century. Located at an altitude of 440 meters, in the heart of a forest of oaks, it is one of the best preserved of the Order. Agricultural operation after the French Revolution, it was opened to the public following its classification in the 1980s. One can still admire a church of the twelfth century with nave unique, or even a cloister of the middle of the thirteenth century. A kitchen, a chapter room, and the dormitory of the monks, on the floor, have been reworked in modern times. There are concerts and exhibitions every summer.

The village also houses a castle.

• In April: Festival of the Four Seasons offers spectators brass bands and shows by regional artists.
• Every summer: Classical music concerts and exhibitions are organized in the former Saint-Michel de Grandmont priory.

• Lake Salagou, surrounded by red earth of the "ruffe". Fishing, swimming, windsurfing, sailing, rental of pedal boats and small electric boats.

Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, classified among the most beautiful villages in France. Its abbey of Gellone. Craft shops, hikes, swimming in the Hérault gorges, canoeing down the Hérault (12 km). Right next door: the Clamouse cave.

• The spectacular Navacelles cirque, carved out by the Vis river, the Vis gorges, and the Foux mills near the resurgence of the Vis. Hiking and swimming. Not far from there, Montdardier, a lovely tree climbing site for adults and children.
• The Mourèze cirque, an astonishing dolomitic cirque, “western” landscape and pretty little village to visit. Music festival in August. Dominated by the Montagne de Liausson. Hiking trails. Right next door: Villeneuvette, picturesque village and former cloth factory.
• La Couvertoirade, fortified village on the Larzac plateau. “Little Carcassonne” with slate roofs, former stopover of the Templars and Hospitallers. Craft shops, alleys and picturesque houses. Hiking. Not far from there, in the hamlet of Infruts: Acroroc (tree climbing between the rocks).
• Roquefort with a visit to the cellars where the famous cheeses ripen. Hiking in the surrounding area.
• The Millau viaduct and its seven pillars which span the Tarn at a height of more than 200 m. Millau, former glove factory, picturesque site. Hiking and paragliding from the cliffs overlooking the town.
• Mediterranean Sea side: Agde, Sète dear to Georges Brassens, its picturesque town center, its canal and its St Louis-style jousts in August, its port and its fine sandy beaches. Then, to the east of Montpellier, Palavas, Carnon and La Grande Motte.

• In Lodève: Resurgence Festival, 4 days around July 20. Street theater, many free shows during the day and paid shows in the evening near the cathedral. Guinguettes and concerts in the park.
• At Caylar: Roc Castel Festival, 4 days the last week of July. In praise of slow travel. Traveler stories, videos, films. Concerts, various activities in a friendly and rural atmosphere. Guinguettes, balls.
• In Montpellier: Radio-France Musique Festival. Free concerts during the day and paid concerts in the evening at Corum and other places in the city.

• In August: In Saint-Jean-de-la-Blaquière: Refurbishment Festival the first weekend of August. Many free theater shows in various places in the village. Paid shows in the evening. Concerts, taverns, balls.
