Saint-Ouen-sur-Loire is made up of three main hamlets: Les Essarts, Le Port-des-Bois and Le Bourg and has a total population of around 570 inhabitants.
The name of the town comes from the missionary Bishop of the 7th century, under King Dagobert, whose name was pronounced "Audowyn" (Germanic origin).
To avoid mail routing errors with other municipalities of the same name, the name "Saint-Ouen-sur-Loire" was imposed around the 60s.
The inhabitants are called Les Audoniens.
The Saint-Barthélémy church was built in 1902 but has older elements.
The bell dates from the 15th century and the font from the 16th century from the old Romanesque church from the 12th century.
As its name suggests, the locality "Le Port-des-Bois" housed a loading dock at the time when the Loire was a vital communication axis in the center of France, especially for the 'transport of wood.
You can take the footpath which will take you to the edge of the Loire along the site where the aggregates are exploited.
