Located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône, the town of Saint-Mitre-les-Remparts takes place near the Mediterranean Sea, near Istres, Port-de-Bouc or Fos-sur-Mer. Not far, the pond of Berre is a place of walk appreciated by the inhabitants and the tourists.
Founded in the ninth century, during the sacking of the nearby Ugium by the Saracens, the town of Saint-Mitre-les-Remparts only really developed in the twelfth century with the construction of a particularly defensive castle. Mainly agricultural, it is then known for its production of olive oil, wheat or wine. Having experienced its economic golden age in the eighteenth century, it suffered a difficult desertification a century later before turning to tourism.
Even today, the city of Saint-Mitre-les-Remparts still attracts a large number of visitors wishing to discover its architectural and historical heritage, as well as the most tourist sites around.
