Saint-Michel-de-Chaillol

The Malcros channel, on the massif of Old Chaillol connects Malcros glacier (2818 m) in Saint- Bonnet. A little history... The Malcros glacier with high water flow, farmers Lower Champsaur wanted recover this water to irrigate their land. This remarkable book of incredible daring, consists of aqueducts covered in places by stone walls, a magnificent vaulted gallery and portions sometimes interspersed with natural ravines and mountain torrents. The colossal work and living conditions at the time (immigration to California, the 1914-1918 War), discourage men. The canal was finally abandoned in 1923.

The Chapel of Chaillolet Each village in the valley has its chapel, they are part of the religious heritage of Champsaur and Valgaudemar. St. Brigid's chapel was built in 1773 by an unknown prime contractor. It was restored or rebuilt in 1842 (date carved on the lintel of the door).
The church and its bell tower: Around 1350, there was only one parish in the community of Chaillol, that of Saint-Michel de Chaillol that existed in the thirteenth century under the title of Saint-Michel. Saint-Pierre de Chaillol was founded after 1350 and before 1516 under the patronage of Saint-Pierre de Chaillol. For a village, the bell tower is a symbol and a means of communication. He announced the good and bad news, and for a long time the alarm was a way to warn the public of serious events. It was he who gave rhythm to the daily activities in addition to the position of the sun. Today its symbolism is smaller but its presence is just as important. This building belongs to the heritage Chaillolard far exceeding the communal structure and the religious character attached to it. Over the centuries, the church and its bell tower, underwent various repairs and alterations, most recently in 2006/2007. Small history available at the Tourist Office.

Born in Champsaur valley, this travelling music festival set against a stunning mountain backdrop offers an original programme of relaxation, walks and musical weekends, designed to introduce visitors to the heritage, wildlife and inhabitants of the Hautes-Alpes area.

Mountain biking The mountain range and Valgaudemar-Chaillol offer over 750 km of marked paths composed of many circuits, downhill routes of different levels, labeled "ATV space." Mountain biking at the Tourist Office.
Pond Champsaur 10 minutes Chaillol, a space built for swimming in the natural setting of the valley and along the Drac. Slide, forest adventure courses, kayak rental, playgrounds for children, animations... On site Snack / bar / restaurant / glacier. Entrance fee from 1 July to 31 August from 10h to 18h.
Gap Bayard golf course 15 minutes from Chaillol at 1,250 meters, 18 holes.
