Saint-Maurice-d'Ardèche

Charming village in the Rhone-Alpes region Saint-Maurice-d'Ardèche is the opportunity to admire a beautiful typical architecture of the region.

The Church of St. Maurice, in Romanesque style, is the only remnant of the former Benedictine convent founded by the family of Vogue during the eleventh century. Built Latin cross, it was partly rebuilt in the nineteenth century. Inside, the columns are topped with charming capitals, with very primitive sculptures, like animals that devour. You can still see a large photograph of the sarcophagus found in the sixteenth century and which once served as an altar at the church. The original is now in the Museum of Gallo-Roman civilization of Lyon. Adjacent to this beautiful building, a building recalls the presence of the old castle.

The downtown Saint-Maurice-d'Ardèche does not lack charm, thanks to its medieval aspect that recalls the past of the Ardèche city. Walking in his heart, it is possible to appreciate charming streets surmounted by arches and stone houses typical of the architecture of this part of France.

Vineyards and other Mediterranean-type landscapes are an opportunity to do some other walks or hikes through this very nature to enjoy the delights of the fauna and local flora.

Throughout the year, Monday morning, the village is the scene of an interesting food market that takes place on the Place de la Mairie. In summer, it added two night markets with refreshment bar and restaurant on site.

Each year a garage sale is also organized around the month of May, thus promoting trade and to do good business in a warm and festive atmosphere.
