A small village in Vendée, forty kilometers from La Roche-sur-Yon, Saint-Martin-Lars-en-Sainte-Hermine now extends over more than 1800 hectares. It is located not far from La Réorthe, Saint-Etienne-de-Brillouet and Thouarsais-Bouildroux.
The town, which takes its name from Saint Martin de Vertou, known for having evangelized the population of the region, and from Lars, which means burnt, has been occupied since Gallo-Roman times, as evidenced by the pottery found on the spot.
