Located in the Jura, in the eponymous town, the church of Saint-Lothain was erected in the 10th century. Listed and classified as a Historic Monument, it was built on a crypt prior to the year 1000. The latter notably houses the sarcophagus of Saint Lothain, a hermit who died at the beginning of the 6th century.
Many times transformed, the building presents several elements of the 18th and 19th centuries like its Comtois bell tower or its pointed vault. Inside, visitors can admire beautiful 16th century statues as well as fine alabaster decorations.
In the crypt is a small alabaster kiosk called the Miraculous Oil Fountain. Saint Lothain used it, according to legend, to anoint and heal the sick.
